Assumptions and Mental Models
Key Learning
The most important idea we learned this week was how assumptions and mental models influence the way people think, act, and make decisions. We understood that assumptions are ideas we believe without always having enough evidence, while mental models are the ways we interpret the world based on our experiences. This topic helped us recognize that our thoughts can affect our communication and relationships with others.
Personal Connection
This session connected to our journey as lifelong learners because it encouraged us to reflect on our own ways of thinking. As students and future professionals, we realized that sometimes we judge situations or people too quickly because of our assumptions. Learning about mental models helped us become more aware of the importance of being open-minded and understanding different perspectives.
Empowerment Insight
This learning made us feel more confident and motivated because now we understand that we can question our own ideas and improve the way we think. It also showed us that learning is not only about gaining knowledge, but also about changing and growing as individuals. We feel more capable of listening to others and making better decisions in our academic and personal lives.
Leadership Reflection
One leadership quality we noticed is the importance of empathy and critical thinking. Effective leaders do not make assumptions quickly; instead, they listen, reflect, and try to understand others before making decisions. We also learned that self-awareness is an important leadership skill because understanding our own mental models can help us communicate and work better with other people.
Challenge & Questions
The muddiest point for us this week was understanding how to clearly identify assumptions in everyday situations. Sometimes it is difficult to know if our opinions are based on facts or only on personal experiences and beliefs. We would like to learn more practical strategies to challenge negative assumptions and develop more positive and objective ways of thinking.
