Leadership VS Management

Key Learning
During our second week, we leard about the difference between leadeship and management and how these are related in some way. We understood that leadership is about inspiring, guiding, and influencing people to achieve a common goal, while management is focused on planning, organizing, and controlling resources. This idea helped us realize that a good teacher needs both skills. Leadership helps create motivation and a positive environment, and management helps maintain order and structure in the classroom.
Personal Connection
This session connects to our journey as lifelong learners, since we are currently preparing to be future teachers. We believe that teaching is not just about transmitting information, giving orders, and hoping for the best, but also about guiding students and helping them grow as individuals. This topic made us reflect on our own experiences as student teachers, where we noticed that the best teachers were those who inspired us, not just those who controlled the class. It also helped us understand that we need to continue learning and improving our skills to become better professionals.
Leadership/Management Insight
This learning made us feel more confident and motivated because now we understand how important it is to develop both leadership and management skills. We feel more capable of facing real classroom situations, where we will need to organize activities but also inspire our students. It also helped us see that being a leader is not something impossible, but something we can develop with practice, responsibility, and good communication. This gives us motivation to improve every day.
Reflection
This week, we observed some leadership qualities in ourselves and others. For example, we identified that responsibility, respect, empathy, and good communication are important leadership skills. We realized that we enjoy supporting others, sharing ideas, and working as a team. We also observed that good leaders listen attentively, are patient, and strive to create a positive environment. This reflection helped us understand that leadership can be developed gradually through our actions.
Challenge & Questions
One of the difficulties we identified this week was how to balance the two concepts when putting them into practice in a classroom. Sometimes it's easy to focus solely on classroom management or motivating students, but doing both simultaneously can be challenging. A possible question could be: How can we be strong leaders who inspire students while also maintaining discipline and organization in the classroom?
